2nd Year in a Row–ASI wins 2016 Healthiest Employer of Central Ohio!
At a special awards ceremony at COSI in Columbus on March 15th, American Showa was selected as the #1 Healthiest Employer in Central Ohio in the large employer category for an unprecedented 2 years in a row!
Over 80 central Ohio companies had been nominated for this award, which is sponsored by the national wellness group Healthiest Employers, Columbus Business First magazine, Ohio Health and Anthem.
Healthiest Employers is an innovative awards program that recognizes organizations that proactively shape the health of their employees. To date, Healthiest Employer, LLC has served as a resource to over 4,000 U.S. employers that represent 60 million employees.
The presenting sponsor for the 2016 program to recognize Central Ohio award recipients was Ohio Health. In addition, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield served as underwriting sponsor and Delta Dental as branding sponsor. A keynote address was delivered by Johnni Beckel, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Office for OhioHealth. Accepting the award on behalf of American Showa was Debra Robinson, General Manager Benefits and Wellness Centers and Jillian Jacobs, Sr. Wellness Programs Specialist.
The Healthiest Employers Award recognizes local organizations and businesses committed to creating a healthy work place, thereby improving the health of their community. American Showa received top honor in the large employer category due to their comprehensive and, innovative approach to employer-provided health and wellness programs. This is the second year in a row American Showa has been awarded top honor in the large company category and in 2014 they placed second. As the first place winner of the 2016 Central Ohio award, American Showa is a finalist for the National Top 100 Healthiest Employers Awards which will take place later in 2016.
American Showa provides medical clinics, referred to by the company as Wellness Centers, near each plant which provide 100% free primary, urgent and preventive care medical services to both employees and family members. In addition to standard medical services, each center also features a pharmaceutical dispensary with free generic drugs, on-site physical therapy and an on-site lab. Each plant also has a large fitness facility on-site for employee use.
Comprehensive wellness activities include weekly lunch and learn education sessions, personal fitness training, group fitness classes, walking and cycling groups, tobacco cessation, diabetes management, teen sports training, and nutrition and weight loss programs. The company even provides CPR training for employees or dependents who want to earn their Red Cross CPR certification. In addition to the medical staff, all associates and dependents also have access to a professionally trained Dietitian, Behavioral Health Coach and Exercise Physiologist.
